Your 10-Day Kenya & Tanzania Safari Itinerary in Detail

Arrival & Nairobi:

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi, you'll be greeted by a Wild Race Africa representative and transferred to your pre-safari accommodation (available at an extra cost).

Take some time to relax and prepare for your incredible adventure.

Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve - Witness the Great Migration (4.5-hour drive)

Your safari begins! After an early morning pickup from your Nairobi hotel, we embark on a scenic drive through the Great Rift Valley, stopping for breathtaking views.

Rest assured, your safety is our top priority. Our experienced guides will ensure a safe and enjoyable journey as we arrive at the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve, part of the vast Serengeti plains.

This reserve is famous for the annual Great Wildebeest Migration and is home to the Big Five: lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo, and Rhino.

After lunch at your lodge/camp, enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Mara. Please keep your eyes peeled for Masai giraffes, buffalo, elands, impalas, zebras, Thomson's and Grant's gazelles, and the elusive predators that stalk them.

Day 2: Exploring the Masai Mara: Migration, Big Cats & Cultural Encounters

Dedicate your second day to fully exploring the vast and diverse ecosystems of the Masai Mara. Wake up early for a hearty breakfast, then embark on a morning game drive where the excitement of wildlife sightings at dawn will invigorate your spirit.

With morning and afternoon game drives included, you’ll have multiple opportunities to capture stunning photographs of the landscape and its inhabitants.

For those seeking a unique experience, consider an optional hot air balloon safari at sunrise, which offers a breathtaking aerial view of the savannah and a chance to see wildlife from an entirely different perspective.

As the sun sets, return to your tented camp for a sumptuous dinner of local dishes. Then, spend the night under the stars, surrounded by the soothing sounds of the African bush.

Day 3: Masai Mara - Scenic Lake Nakuru - Flamingos & Rhinos (4-hour drive)

After breakfast, we depart the Masai Mara and head to Lake Nakuru National Park in the Great Rift Valley. Lake Nakuru is famous for its stunning flocks of lesser and greater flamingos, transforming the lakeshore into a vibrant pink spectacle.

Enjoy an afternoon game drive, searching for the park's diverse birdlife (over 400 species!), white and black rhinos, and the rare Rothschild giraffe.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha - Boat Ride & Crescent Island Walking Safari (1-hour drive)

Today, we journey to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake known for its abundant birdlife and scenic beauty. Enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the lake, spotting hippos and diverse bird species.

Afterwards, experience a unique walking safari on Crescent Island, a sanctuary for zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, and other herbivores.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha to Amboseli National Park - Majestic Kilimanjaro Views (5-hour drive)

After checking into your lodge and enjoying lunch, embark on an afternoon game drive. Amboseli is an excellent place to view elephants, wildebeest, giraffes, baboons, and other wildlife.

Optional: Enjoy the lodge facilities, including a swimming pool, sundeck, gift shop, and bar. Guided walks and bird-watching excursions are also available.

Day 6: Amboseli to Tarangire National Park (Tanzania) - Elephant Paradise (4-hour drive)

Today, we cross the border into Tanzania and head to Tarangire National Park, a hidden gem known for its large elephant population and diverse landscapes. Tarangire is a haven for wildlife lovers seeking a more secluded safari experience.

The park's landscape is dotted with ancient baobab trees, termite mounds, and the Tarangire River, the only water source during the dry season.

Look for zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, waterbucks, baboons, impalas, lions, cheetahs, and leopards.

As we drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, marvel at the vastness of this territory and the abundance of wildlife.

Optional: Visit a Maasai village in the Ngorongoro Highlands to learn about their culture and traditions.

The Serengeti offers year-round wildlife viewing, with each season offering unique highlights.

Optional: Enhance your safari with a hot air balloon safari and champagne breakfast in the Serengeti.

Day 8: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater - A Natural Wonder (1-hour drive)

Optional: Visit a Maasai Village in the Ngorongoro Highlands.

Descend 610 meters into the crater floor, a natural enclosure teeming with wildlife. Spot endangered black rhinos, wildebeest, buffalo, zebra, eland, gazelles, giant-tusked elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, and wild dogs. Over 500 species of birds have been recorded in the area.

Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater to Lake Manyara National Park - Tree-Climbing Lions

Today, we visit Lake Manyara National Park, which extends along the base of the Rift Valley escarpment. Its diverse landscape includes giant fig trees, acacia woodlands, mahogany trees, and grassy flood plains.

Lake Manyara is famous for its tree-climbing lions, large elephant population, buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, mongoose, dik-dik, and zebra.

The lake attracts thousands of pink-hued flamingos and other waterbirds, such as pelicans and storks.

Day 10: Lake Manyara - Arusha - Departure
