Detailed Itinerary

Arrival

You’ll be picked from the airport. Accommodation before the tour starts can be arranged at an extra cost.

Day: 1 | Aberdare National Park

0800 Hours: The safari departs Nairobi after breakfast by road to the Aberdare National Park, 3½ hours drive-through coffee and tea plantations to the Aberdare Country Club, nestled on the slopes of Mweiga Hill.
1200 Hours: Enjoy lunch at the Aberdare Country Club.
1430 Hours: Set off for the Ark tree lodge, located in the forest on mountain slopes of the Aberdare Mountains at 7,000 feet. This outstanding lodge offers high altitude game viewing, including animals that are rarely encountered elsewhere: Giant forest hog, Bush pig, Tree Hyrax, large Spotted Genet, and the elusive Bongo Antelope.

Wildlife can be observed from different levels – and from outside where you can see, hear and smell everything and inside where you can sit with a cup of tea and stay warm and cozy. You can put in a request to be awakened during the night if your favorite animals show up. A herd of Elephants might be just feet away and if you are lucky, a leopard or large male Lion might put in an appearance.

Day: 2 | Samburu National Reserve

0800 Hours: We enjoy breakfast at the Tree lodge then transfer to the Aberdare Country club.
0900 Hours: We travel by road to Kenya’s northern frontier to the wild and rugged, Samburu National Reserve located 180 km away.
1200 Hours: We check-in at our lodge/ camp and lunch follows. The afternoon is at leisure and later we enjoy a cup of tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate before the afternoon game drive.
1530 Hours: We depart for a game drive. Samburu National Reserve is one of Kenya’s most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich to Grevy’s zebras and Beisa oryx.
1830 Hours: We return from the game drive to our accommodations.

Day: 3 | Samburu Nationa Reserve

Today we spend the full day in Samburu Game Reserve on two game drives – early morning and afternoon game drives. Samburu National Reserve is a rugged and semi-desert park. It was one of the two areas in which conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness. Their story was made famous by the bestselling book and award-winning movie “Born Free”. The game reserve is renowned for its rare species of animals unique to the park, namely: the long-necked gerenuk, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa oryx.

The elusive Kenya leopard is often known to visit the park, especially in the evenings. Another Kenyan wildlife present in the park includes cheetahs and lions, as well as elephants, buffalo, and hippos. Birdlife is as plentiful as wildlife at Samburu National Reserve, which boasts over 350 different species of birds including vultures, kingfishers, marabous, bateleurs, guinea fowl, Somali ostriches, and others.

Day: 4 | Ol Pejeta Conservancy

This is our last day exploring the Samburu game reserve after breakfast at the lodge. Morning drive to Sweet waters game sanctuary. Lunch at sweetwaters serena camp. Afternoon game drive with a visit to the Chimpanzee sanctuary. Dinner and overnight at sweetwaters serena camp.

Day: 5 | Transfer Nairobi, Departure

Breakfast at the camp. Morning drive back to Nairobi. Drop off at a Nairobi hotel or international airport.
