Detailed Itinerary

Arrival

You’ll be picked from the airport. Accommodation before the tour starts can be arranged at an extra cost.

Day: 1 | Lake Manyara National Park

You will be picked up, in the morning, from Kilimanjaro airport in Arusha and travel to Lake Manyara National Park. You will arrive in the early afternoon, check-in at the Lake Manyara Sunbright campsite, and enjoy lunch. After lunch, you will embark on a game drive in the park that is nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The park is recognized for its incredible beauty and a wide variety of wildlife including buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala, hippo, and more. The highlight of this African safari is witnessing the annual Migration; an ancient phenomenon and the largest movement of wildlife on earth. Each year large masses of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and other animals migrate through the plains of the Serengeti and the neighboring Masai Mara, following seasonally dictated variations of rains in search of grass and water. In the late afternoon, you will return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day: 2 | Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will check-out and then make your way to the Serengeti National Park. A picnic lunch will be provided. On the way you will stop at the Olduvai Gorge where anthropologists Louis and Mary Leakey made many significant discoveries, contributing to the theory that human life originated in Africa. After stopping for your picnic lunch on a kopje (rock outcropping) in Serengeti you will continue on into the park for a great game drive. The Serengeti is best known for its wildlife diversity and boasts many species of plains animals from hare to the elephant. The name Serengeti comes from the Masai word “Siringet” meaning endless plain. After your game drives you will check-in at the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day: 3 | Serengeti National park

After your breakfast, you will spend the full day on game drives around Serengeti. Depending on the time of year and the migration of the herds, you can expect to see wildebeest, lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra, monkey, baboon, hippo, rhino, antelope, a variety of birds, and many more. At the end of the day, you will return to the campsite for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day: 4 | Ngorongoro Crater

You will rise before dawn and take off for a game drive to see predators returning from their morning hunt, and other animals waking up. After this great drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, you will check out and drive to Naabi Hill Gate where you will enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will make some stops at the Grzimek Memorial and the viewpoint of the crater before you proceed to the Ngorongoro Simba campsite where you will check-in and have lunch. In the afternoon there is an optional nature walk at the Northern Crater Rim of the Ngorongoro Crater inhabited by buffalo, elephant, baboon, monkey, and a variety of species of birds. This walk will be escorted by a Masai guide or a ranger who will take you to follow animal paths through dense bush. In the evening you will return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day: 5 | Tarangire National Park

Today we are up at dawn for an early breakfast before we descend the steep walls of the Ngorongoro Crater to the wildlife-rich floor below. The Ngorongoro is a huge caldera (collapsed volcano) that boasts an 18km diameter span with walls as high as 600 meters. Home to the densest mammalian population in Africa, at around 25,000 large animals, this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The many diverse habitats found on the fertile crater floor attract a variety of wildlife including Africa’s Big 5 as well as elephant, monkey, hyena, jackal, and herds of zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, and other antelope species. Offering first-class game viewing, Ngorongoro is considered one of the best places to photograph the endangered black rhino. In the early afternoon, we leave this wonderland and move on to the seemingly endless Tarangire National Park with a game drive and lunch en-route to arrive by late afternoon for dinner and overnight at Tarangire budget camp.

Day: 6 | Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, you proceed to check-out and travel to Tarangire National Park, the third-largest park and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including monkeys, lions, leopards, cheetah, and up to six thousand elephants.

Day: 7 | Transfer Arusha, Departure

After breakfast you will check-out, and depending on your traveling schedule, you could embark on a morning game drive in the park before you return to Arusha. Upon arrival in Arusha you will have lunch and then be dropped off at Kilimanjaro airport for your flight home. This is where your safari will end.
